Success at the Sports Hall athletics
Huge congratulations to our sports hall athletics team who came first place in the school games on 1st December 2016. They scored the highest points out of every school, and excelled in every event from speedbounce, relay, standing long jump to 5 strides! We are so proud of them all!!! We will be working hard for the county finals at the end of January!!!
Saturday morning football team: Saturday 19th November, KO 9.30am (A) v Brickhill. Match report written by Jamie Mellor.
On Saturday we played Brickhill and we won 6-3. I won Man of the match because I passed and controlled the ball better than I did last year.
How many of the sporting values can you see in action in these photos? #respect, determination, teamwork, passion, self belief, honesty
Here at GGA we are committed to providing high quality, enjoyable and challenging PE lessons. Specialist staff from Premier Sport teach all year groups from reception to Year 1: curriculum content is planned in conjunction with staff.
A different unit is taught each term to provide our children with a diverse range of sports, and encourage them to try new skills and gain confidence with new activities. A strong emphasis is placed upon team work and co-operation, thus fitting in with our strong emphasis on values education. Some of these units include: tag rugby, multi-skills, dance, gymnastics, tennis, volleyball and athletics.
As a school, each year we enter all of the school games competitions, run by the Bedford and Kempston School Sports Partnership. These hold a competitive element, and often lead to partnership and county finals. We’ve had great success at these! As a result of talent spotting, several of our children have gone on to represent the county in tag rugby and tennis. We reached the county finals in tag rugby (Key Stage 2), cricket (Key Stage 2) and came 2nd in the Key Steps Gymnastics. Key stage 1 children recently came 1st in unihoc- a fantastic achievement.
We offer a wide range of extra-curricular sporting activities. We currently have 19 children in our after school football club, and run a highly successful Saturday morning football club. England players in the making! Dance club is forever increasing in numbers, and have had huge success in the Red Cross Dance Competition and competed at the Bedfordshire Festival at the Corn Exchange. Gymnastics club is starting this term – we will be busy training for next year's Key Steps Competition.
We have had a number of inspirational sporting personalities visiting our school. We were privileged to welcome Etienne Stott, who spoke about his incredible gold medal win at London 2012. A hope for Rio, Danny Lawrence, held a motivating assembly and fitness workshop across the school. Riverside Tennis Club have also held workshops to talent spot – many of our children have been invited to the club for training.
We look forward to future sporting challenges and will continue to engage and challenge all of our children. London 2012 was an inspiration to us all, and we pledge to nurture talents and encourage happy, healthy lifestyles.
