The Library has had an enjoyable term; Mrs Cox continues to update our displays which have included all things autumn. Books on the seasons and things to make during those times continue to be very popular reads in the library.
Children from Redwood Class had the opportunity to write down what Christmas is to them. We had some delightful responses, including “Christmas is spending time with my family and friends,” “Christmas is having a lovely Christmas dinner,” “Christmas is about the birth of Jesus,” “Christmas is playing games,” and “Christmas is about Santa and presents.” As you will see in the photograph, these slips made a lovely Christmas tree display in the library too!
Although we have experienced technical difficulties this term in the library and borrowing books has at times been problematic, children have enjoyed taking part in library skill activities, sharing book reviews and telling and listening to stories. The last weeks are always fun when we get to share various Christmas story titles, as well as reading how different countries and cultures celebrate their various celebrations and festivals.
Harry Potter and Diary of a Wimpy Kid are still very popular reads together with anything from Roald Dahl and David Walliams. For our YR2 / 3 Return to the Library of Doom series are proving popular with our children that like something a little scary! Graphic novels have been much borrowed by all year groups, with “My lst Graphic Novel” series very much enjoyed by YR1 / 2 readers. For reception years, the majority of our resources have been replaced with new titles, but of course keeping all the fairy tale favourites in place!
Have a lovely Christmas. Enjoy snuggling up with your lovely children for Christmassy reads over the holidays!
It has been a lovely start to the summer term here in the Library. Many children are enjoying coming in to the Library at lunchtimes where they can exchange their books and do a variety of book related activities such as colouring and word searches.
We have been busy updating our Library displays which include a new welcome board outside the Library and a lovely Spring themed display inside the Library which features some beautiful colouring by the children.
Pupils have also been encouraged to share their book recommendations, with the new “Recommended Read” bookmarks which have been given out allowing a quick and easy way to share feelings about books.
Another exciting development has been the introduction of a small DVD collection, which the children are welcome to borrow alongside their Library books. This collection has proved very popular, with children able to choose from a range of DVDs which even includes a few classics such as Button Moon.
We have been lucky enough to purchase some new stock for the Library recently. This includes a really gorgeous selection of Classics as well as a new set of the always popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Dogman books.
Popular books continue to include the Harry Potter series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Hello Kitty story books. Where’s Wally is a favourite amongst all the year groups! The children are encouraged to borrow a wide variety of books, and some popular non-fiction areas include pets, animals, dinosaurs and space!
